Concrete Landscape Border Care
New extruded concrete has been installed and your backyard landscaping project is complete! An attractive, durable product, this curbing will last for years with proper care. Follow our suggested guidelines below to ensure the long life of your curbing.
Care Guidelines
-
Keep pets, children and objects away from the curb for at least 72 hours. After the first few days, the curb will be solid, but it will still need several days (28) to fully cure.
-
Sod laying, sprinkler work and landscape work can be started 72 hours after installation. However, caution must be taken as shovels, picks and wheelbarrows can damage the curb for several days while it is fully curing.
-
If you have a landscape contractor working for you, warn him about protecting the curb from damage.
-
If wheelbarrows are used for hauling rock over the curb, put a mound of dirt over it (6″ deep) or build a ramp over the curb to keep the weight from cracking it. Never allow a tractor or truck to run over the curb.
-
If it begins to rain within 6 hours after we leave the job, try to cover the curb with plastic.
-
Check sprinkler heads while the system is on to adjust them and minimize the amount of water on the curb. It may become necessary for you to clean your curbing. You can clean the curb with a 50/50 vinegar and water with a light brushing.

-
Rain, sprinklers, irrigation, condensate lines and backwash from pools can all damage the curb during the first 72 hours and is not covered under warranty.
-
Curbing may look “splotchy” for a few days while it is curing. This will go away as it cures.
-
Cracks are not covered under warranty. Concrete curbing, like any other type of concrete, can and will crack. We experience very little cracking in our products. However, it is important to note: Repairs can be difficult to make in colored concrete as it is impossible to get a perfect color match. A hairline crack is much less noticeable than a patch or discoloration in the curbing.
-
When curbing is installed as a retrofit, (grass already in place) there will be a small amount of concrete on the ground between the new curb and grass. Wet concrete is very difficult to remove. After a 24-hour curing period, it can be picked up in small pieces and thrown away. As we do not include a return trip in the price of our cubing to do this, we ask that you take a few minutes to remove the excess concrete. This will allow your grass to grow back against the curb. If there are voids between the curb and grass, you may want to place sand/dirt in this area
